WIMA Belt Conveyors

Stockpiling and Loading Belt Conveyors.

Function Within the Plant Process

Stockpiling and loading belt conveyors are designed for controlled material discharge either at the end of or within a process chain. In contrast to transfer conveyors, the primary focus here is on precise and controlled material deposition.

These systems are used for the formation of defined stockpiles or for the direct loading of transport equipment.

Typical Applications

Stockpiling and loading belt conveyors are used for:

  • Intermediate and final stockpiling of mineral construction materials

  • Truck loading stations

  • Rail loading

  • Ship loading

  • Material handling in port and industrial facilities

The specific configuration depends on material characteristics, discharge height, outreach, and site conditions.

Discharge Principles.

Depending on project requirements, different discharge principles are applied.

Fixed Discharge Point
Stationary systems with a defined discharge position. Suitable for fixed stockpile geometries or clearly defined loading points.

Linear Travelling Discharge
Travelling systems allowing variable positioning along a defined travel path. Used where stockpile positions change or where flexible handling areas are required.

Radial Discharge (Pivoting Systems)
Pivoting systems distributing material over a defined radius. Enables larger stockpile geometries without the need for additional mobile equipment.

Boom and Loading Systems
Conveyors with cantilevered structures for direct loading of trucks, rail wagons, or vessels. These applications require increased structural capacity and stability.

Structural Characteristics

Compared to transfer conveyors, stockpiling and loading conveyors involve additional design considerations:

  • Structural design of cantilevered support frames

  • Integration of pivoting or travelling systems

  • Adaptation to stockpile geometry and storage concept

  • Integration into handling and traffic areas

The structural design is carried out within the overall project engineering process, taking into account both static requirements and operational boundary conditions.

For the technical design of a belt conveyor, information regarding the conveyed material, the required throughput, conveying distances, and potential elevation differences is necessary. In addition, the functional role within the plant, available space conditions, and interfaces to adjacent equipment are taken into account. Based on this information, project-specific dimensioning and structural design of the conveyor are carried out.
