As the use of root wood and residual wood as energy sources continues to increase, the demands placed on fuel quality and the operational reliability of combustion systems also rise. Contaminants such as stones, sand, or metal cause increased wear, higher ash input, and, in the worst case, unplanned downtime. Reliable separation of these unwanted materials is therefore essential for stable and economical plant operation.

The case study presented here demonstrates how shredded root wood and residual wood can be efficiently freed from stones using water-based density separation. By employing the WIMA Hydro Density Separator HDS-M, precise separation of the material fractions is achieved, resulting in a significant improvement in fuel quality and a sustainable reduction in the load on downstream combustion and processing equipment.
