The modernisation of the gravel processing plant in Liebersee became necessary after a fire damaged parts of the classification unit. WIMA developed a tailored solution that included modified screening technology and custom-designed steel and platework. Among other components, elliptical vibrating screens were used, structurally integrated into the existing processing levels.

Initial Situation – Fire Damage in the Liebersee Plant

In early 2024, a fire affected parts of the Liebersee plant operated by Hülskens Liebersee. The structural framework remained largely intact, so the task was not to rebuild from scratch but to carry out a technically sound retrofit.

Modified Screening Technology Instead of 1:1 Replacement

Replacing the damaged machines with identical models was not feasible. Instead, WIMA supplied elliptical vibrating screens that allowed a flatter installation and met the requirements of EN 1009-4, especially regarding minimum deck distances.

Integration Into Existing Structures

In addition to supplying the screening machines, WIMA implemented the required steel and platework to integrate the new technology into the existing system. The adaptation focused on maintaining the layout without extensive structural alterations.

Implementation and Commissioning

Dismantling and installation began in January 2025. Just eight weeks later, the plant was back in operation. Thanks to the integrated air spring system, the machines run more smoothly than before. After a brief adjustment phase, the system once again produced standard-compliant grain sizes in the required volumes.

A Retrofit That Works

Rebuilding from scratch is straightforward – but optimising an existing structure under real-world conditions requires experience and technical precision. The modernisation of the gravel processing plant in Liebersee shows what is possible when machines and structural adaptations are designed to fit together.
